TERMS OF USE
Draft. This has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. The restrictions below are real and we intend to enforce them.
What this is
A personality assessment using the IPIP-NEO-120, a public-domain inventory published by John A. Johnson in the Journal of Research in Personality (2014). Your scores are percentiles against Johnson’s sample of 619,150 people, matched to your age and sex.
The items come from the International Personality Item Pool and are in the public domain. No endorsement by IPIP or the National Institutes of Health is implied.
What this is not
This measures normal personality variation. It is not a clinical instrument and it is not a diagnosis. It cannot tell you whether you have a mental health condition, and a result here is not a reason to seek or avoid treatment. If you are worried about your mental health, speak to a qualified professional.
It must not be used to make decisions about people
You may not use this assessment, or any output from it, to make hiring, promotion, placement, discipline or termination decisions. That is a condition of using the service, and it applies to individual and organisation accounts alike.
This is not a formality. A personality instrument used to select employees is a selection procedure under the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures, with everything that follows from that — and using one to screen candidates has been found to raise disability discrimination questions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
No output of this service ranks people, scores candidates, or recommends one person over another, and none ever will. It is built to help people understand how they and their colleagues differ, not to sort them.
Organisation use
Organisations buying seats agree to the same restriction, explicitly, and are responsible for it being followed by the people they invite.
Assessments an organisation pays for use the workplace edition, which leaves out the political-opinion and impulse-control questions. Individual detailed results are shown to the individual. Whether anyone at the organisation can see them is an organisation setting that is off unless explicitly turned on, and aggregate views never report on groups small enough to identify a person.
Accuracy
Self-report questionnaires measure how you describe yourself, which is not the same as how you are. Answer carelessly and the result will be wrong. Scores also move somewhat if you retake the test. Treat this as a useful description, not a fact about you.
Your data
Covered by the privacy policy. In short: no account, we do not sell it, and you can download or delete everything from your private link at any time.
Liability
The service is provided as it is, without warranty. We are not liable for decisions taken on the basis of a result — least of all decisions of the kind prohibited above.
